Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee April 27, 2007

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on April 27, in Montgomery Hall room 20.

Matt Cavalli presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Olaf Berwald, Matt Cavalli, Greg Gagnon, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Lana Rakow, Anne Walker, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.

                                        

3.   Discussion of the General Education Task Force Draft Proposal.  Greg Gagnon moved that the General Education Requirements Committee support the General Education Task Force proposal for general education requirements. The motion was voted upon and approved with a vote of 7 in favor of, 1 against and 1 abstention.

 

4.  Revalidations for Russian 101 for arts and humanities credit, Russian 102, 201, 161 and 162 all for arts and humanities and world cultures credit; Business Administration 101 for social science credit; Recreation and Leisure Services 201 and 360, both for social science credit; Mechanical Engineering 370 for social science credit and ME 480 for communication credit. Adam Kitzes moved to approve all of the above requests. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

5.  Political Science 115, 116, 220, 318 and 250. Olaf Berwald moved to approve the revalidations for Poli 115 for social science credit; Poli 116 for social science credit; Poli 220 for social science and world cultures credit; and Poli 318 for social science credit; and Poli 250 for provisional revalidation for social science credit with direct assessment data due two months after course is next taught.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

6. Geology 101, 102, 101L, 103, 105, 105 and 111. Ryan Zerr moved to approve the revalidations for Geol 101 for math, science and technology credit and Geol 102 for math, science and technology credit; and Geol 101L, Geol 103, Geol 105-E, Geol 105-M and Geol 111 for provisional revalidation for math, science and technology credit with direct assessment data due two months after course is next taught.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously. 

 

7. Phil 215 and 320 revalidations; Religion 220, 300, 380 and 410; Phil 300 and 370.  Joan Hawthorne moved to revalidate Phil 215 for arts and humanities credit; Phil 320 for arts and humanities credit; Rels 220 for arts and humanities credit; Rels 300 for arts and humanities credit; Rels 380 for arts and humanities and world cultures credit; and Rels 410 for arts and humanities and world cultures credit; and to return Phil 300 and 370 to the department for additional information.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

8. Geography 151 revalidation. Lana Rakow moved to approve revalidation of Geog 151 for social science and world cultures credit. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

9.  Communication 102.  Adam Kitzes moved to approve Comm 102 for provisional revalidation for social science credit with new assessment data due at the end of next semester. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.  Matt Cavalli will contact the instructor with the changes that are required.

 

10.  English 227 validation request. Joan Hawthorne moved to approve Engl 227 for provisional validation for arts and humanities credit with direct assessment data and complete syllabus due two months after course is taught. The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.

 

11. Melonie DeBelly student petition.  John LaDuke moved to approve the petition for communication credit. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

12. Joseph Elsberry student petition for math, science and technology general education credit. Joan Hawthorne moved to approve the request contingent upon the Registrar’s Office receiving the proper documentation from Minot State University. The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.

 

13. Revalidations not yet received.  Joan Hawthorne moved to have the General Education Recorder contact the three departments concerned and ask that they respond by May 15 if they do not want their courses removed from general education list. If they wish to revalidate all information must be submitted by August 1, 2007. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

14. The meeting adjourned at 10:55 a.m.
