Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee April 28, 2003

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on Monday, April 28, in the Edna Twamley Room.  David Pierce presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Carl Barrentine, Connie Borboa,  Sara Hanhan, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Chuck Miller, Dean Nichols, David Pierce, Tom Rand and Tom Steen. 

 

3.      Minutes of the April 14 meeting. David Pierce moved to approve the April 14 minutes. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.  

 

4.      Carl Barrentine presented Engl161 for Arts and Humanities general education credit and Engl 162 for Arts & Humanities general education credit and World Cultures credit and moved approval.  The motion carried with a vote of 8 in favor of and 1 abstention.

 

5.      Revalidations for Thea 201 and 270 for Arts and Humanities credit.  Sara Hanhan moved to postpone requests pending receiving the following information.  For Thea 201 a copy or a sample of course contract and information about assessment and assessment analysis.  Thea 270 needs rationale for inclusion in the general education curriculum, copy of syllabus or contract of the course and copy of planned assessment analysis. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

6.      Removals from GER listing.  Tom Rand moved to approve the following GER removals per departments requests: Thea 223, 422, 423, 424 and 488 and Engl 320, 321, 322, 330 369 and 409.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

7.      New course validations for general education credit.  Chinese 101 for Communication and Arts and Humanities credit and Chinese 102 for Arts and Humanities credit and World Cultures.  David Pierce moved to approve the requests subject to department agreement to add the general education goals to the next syllabus. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

8.      Dickinson State GERTA request for Biol 230 math/science credit.  Tom Rand moved to instruct Philip Parnell (Registrar’s Office) to accept the course as a GERTA science course if there is no other opposition.  If there is opposition he would also oppose it. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously. 

 

9.      New revalidation forms.  Tom Steen moved to approve the new revalidation forms as most recently amended.

 

10.  The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
