Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee November 30, 2007

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on November 30, 2007, in Montgomery Hall, room 20. Ryan Zerr presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Adam Kitzes, John La Duke, Chuck Moretti, Don Poochigian, Lana Rakow, Ty Reese, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.

                                        

3.    Minutes October 26 and November 9.  Don Poochigian moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.  

 

4.  ES Steering Committee update. Special area groups started working and will finish mid-January.    

 

5.   Validating ES Oral Communications Courses.  This will be discussed with Departments.

 

6.  Geology 105 Surviving on Planet Earth validation for math, science and technology general education credit. John La Duke moved to approve the validation.  The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried with 1 abstention.

 

7.  Religion 321 validation for arts and humanities general education credit and world cultures; Religion 431 validation for arts and humanities general education credit. Joan Hawthorne moved to approve the validations. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried with 1 abstention.

 

8.  Philosophy 335 validation for arts and humanities general education credit. Joan Hawthorne moved to approve the validation with the request to add an assessment plan for class similar to Phil 335.  The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried with 1 abstention.

 

9.      Validation form for Essential Studies.  The form was reviewed. A contact person line will be

added to the signature page; line 4. Prerequisites will be deleted along with lines 5 through 13. Joan Hawthorne moved to approve the application with these changes. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

10.   Student petition for Tamara Jason requesting waiver of communication general education requirements credit. Lana Rakow moved to approve the request. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

11.  The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
