Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee March 31, 2003

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on Monday, March 31, in the Edna Twamley Room.  David Pierce presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Carl Barrentine, Connie Borboa, Sara Hanhan, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Chuck Miller, Dean Nichols, Lila Pedersen, David Pierce, Tom Rand and Tom Steen. 

 

3.      Minutes of the March 24 meeting.  Tom Rand moved to approve the March 24 minutes.  The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.

 

4.      Carl Barrentine and Tom Steen presented the English general education revalidation requests.

 

Carl Barrentine moved to approve Engl 224, 305, 316 and 315 for Arts and Humanities general education revalidation. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

Carl Barrentine moved to approve Engl 308 for Communication Level 3 general education revalidation. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

Carl Barrentine moved to approve Engl 241, 301, 302, 303 and 304 for Arts and Humanities general education revalidation.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously. 

 

5.      Tom Rand presented the Indian Studies general education revalidation requests.

 

Tom Rand moved to accept the Indian Studies department request to not revalidate IS 255.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

Tom Rand moved to approve IS 121, 151, 346 and 352 for Arts and Humanities general education and world cultures revalidations. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

6.      Modified revalidation form. Sara Hanhan moved to have the General Education Committee use the streamlined revalidation form as a pilot form for the rest of the semester and to make any revisions to the form at the end of the semester.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

Tom Rand moved to add a statement to the modified revalidation form asking to have a course syllabus added to the application. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

7.      The meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
