Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee February 3, 2006

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on February 3 in Carnegie Hall, Room 102.       

Anne Walker presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Matt Cavalli, Birgit Hans, Joan Hawthorne, Wendelin

Hume, Julie Kroll, Lana Rakow, Tom Steen, Gary Towne, Anne Walker, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.

                                        

3.   Liaison revalidation updates.

Joan Hawthorne – School of Communication: two to three weeks.  Criminal Justice: soon.

Ryan Zerr – Physics: soon. Atmospheric Sciences: have not heard anything.

Matt Cavalli – History: has not heard back from them but knows they are working on them.

Lana Rakow – Geography: working on them. Rehabilitation & Human Services: here.

 

4.  Additional meeting times have been set for February 23 at 2:00 and March 30 at 2:00 but only if necessary.

 

5.  Restructuring Committee met. They discussed asking University Senate for a budget and having revalidation teams. If there are no problems with the revalidation the team would sign off on it.  The revalidation would only come to committee if there were concerns.

 

Validation teams are as follows:

Lana Rakow, Gary Towne, and Tammy Carmichael: Languages, Honors, Rehabilitation and Human Services, Psychology, and Geography

Ty Reese, Matt Cavalli, Anne Walker and Julie Kroll: Geology, History, Space Studies, Computer Science, Math and Technology

Birgit Hans, Joan Hawthorne, Ryan Zerr: Philosophy and Religion, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Communication, Atmospheric Sciences and Physics

 

6.  Discussion of assessment form.  Joan Hawthorne moved to use the first assessment form, adding number 8 from the second draft, for this semester and reviewing at the end of the semester. The motion was voted upon and approved unanimously.

 

7. Minutes January 20, 2006. Lana Rakow moved to approve the minutes. The motion was voted upon and approved with one abstention.

 

8. Language requests.  Joan Hawthorne moved to have Languages complete the forms with direct assessment data and support information for any communication information they want to revalidate and return to the Committee by September 1, 2006.  The motion was voted upon and approved with one abstention.   Gary Towne and Joan Hawthorne will be working with Languages.

 

9. Meeting adjourned at 3:30.
