Education Requirements Committee March 3

1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on Monday, March 3, in the Edna Twamley Room. David Pierce presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Carl Barrentine, Connie Borboa, Sara Hanhan, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Chuck Miller, Lila Pedersen, David Pierce, Tom Rand and Tom Steen.
3. Minutes of the February 24 meeting. Tom Steen moved to approve the February 24 minutes. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
4. David Pierce presented Religion 100, a new course for validation of arts and humanities general education credit, and moved approval. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously. David Pierce will talk to the instructor of the course regarding world cultures credit.
5. David Pierce presented Recreation and Leisure 201, a course not currently on the list for Ger credit, for validation for social science general education credit and moved approval. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
6. David Pierce presented Recreation and Leisure 360, a course not currently on the list for GER credit, for validation for social science general education credit and world cultures credit.
David Pierce moved to approve RLS 360 for social science general education credit only. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
Action of World Cultures for RLS 360 was postponed. David Pierce will contact the department for additional information.
7. David Pierce presented Humanities 224 and 225, new courses for validation of social science general education credit; Hum 270, new course for validation of math, science and technology general education credit; and Hum 271, new course for validation of math, science and technology lab science general education credit, and moved approval of all of the requests. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
8. Sara Hanhan asked for input on the proposed Undergraduate Council. There was discussion. David Pierce moved the General Education Committee would like to be part of this Undergraduate Council. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
9. Subcommittee reports:
Direct assessment – no report
Speaking/Writing Intensive – ready to discuss applications at next meeting
Revalidation Process – form will be discussed next week
10. The meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
