Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee February 4, 2005

 

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on February 4, in Montgomery Hall, Room 20. Wendelin Hume presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Matt Cavalli, Patrick Haertel, Birgit Hans, Joan Hawthorne, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Tom Rand, Tom Steen, Brian Steenerson, Gary Towne, Anne Walker, and Connie Borboa.

                                        

3.      Wendelin Hume asked for updates from committee members on the revalidation process and encouraged members to keep talking to the department representatives.

 

4.      Humanities 271 and Humanities 271L.  Tami Carmichael, Director, Humanities and Integrated Studies, submitted a memorandum notifying the Committee of a curriculum change in Hum 271 from 4 credits, including lab, to Hum 271 for 3 credits and Hum 271L for 1 credit.  The Committee asked that it be noted in the catalog that both courses are required to fulfill the laboratory science requirement in Math, Science and Technology.

 

5.      Sociology.  Cliff Staples requested a waiver for this year due to the fact their department revalidations were just completed in 2002-2003.  Tom Rand moved to approve the waiver for one year.  The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.  

 

6.      Student Petition.  A petition for Math, Science and Technology credit was reviewed for Sally Opp.  Birgit Hans moved to approve the petition.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

7.      Anth 309/Geol 303 new course for Math, Science and Technology general education credit.  Discussion.  Mark Hoffmann moved to table the request.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.  Wendelin Hume will discuss request with departments.

 

8.      Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
