Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee November 4, 2005

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on November 4 in Carnegie Hall, Room 102.     

Anne Walker presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Matt Cavalli, Jay Fisher, Patrick Haertel, Birgit Hans,

Joan Hawthorne, Lana Rakow, Ty Reese, Tom Steen, Gary Towne, Anne Walker, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.

                                        

3.   Minutes October 21, 2005. Lana Rakow moved to approve the minutes. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

4.   Anne Walker reported Dan Rice has been appointed to General Education Task Force and will no longer be on the General Education Requirements Committee.

 

5.  Mechanical Engineering 370 validation request for arts and humanities general education requirements credit. Discussion. Birgit Hans moved to approve ME 370 for social science general education requirements credit upon approval of Prof. Bibel. The motion was vote upon and approved with a vote of 9 in favor of and 1 abstention.

 

5.  Writing Committee.  Joan Hawthorne and Gary Towne will review requests for writing and speaking intensive courses.

 

6.  Updates on department revalidations:

     Birgit Hans – Sociology will be submitting 2 evaluations per course and Philosophy and Religion are collecting data

     Matt Cavalli – History will be submitting requests after the first of the year

     Joan Hawthorne – Criminal Justice will submit requests early January

     Gary Towne – working with Sherry in Languages

     Lana Rakow – meeting with Geography next week  and Rehabilitations Services will be in touch with her

     Anne Walker – Social Work will be deleting the courses they have for general education credit and requesting three new ones

 

7.  General education validation form was reviewed.   

 

8.  Matt Cavalli will chair the next meeting.

 

9.  Patrick Haertel, Lana Rakow, Birgit Hans, and Gary Towne will not be at the next meeting.

 

10.  Meeting adjourned at 3:30.
