Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee November 9, 2007

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on November 9, 2007, in Montgomery Hall, room 20. Ryan Zerr presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Greg Gagnon, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Sukhvarsh Jerath, Adam Kitzes, Chuck Moretti, Don Poochigian, Lana Rakow, Ty Reese, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.

                                        

3.    Update on ES Steering Committee work.  The plan is to have two events relating to transition.  The first will be in February for department faculty who want to develop a course in specific area.  The second will be in mid April. There will be a speaker to talk about general education and then the GERC will hold the general education workshop.  More information will be coming on these events.

 

4.   Disciplinary ES Requirements. The Committee discussed the draft for disciplinary ES requirements.  The Social Sciences language was amended.  Greg Gagnon moved to approve the draft for disciplinary ES requirements as amended.  The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.   

 

5.   Validating courses for next year.  Ryan Zerr will contact all departments offering general education courses listing the courses under each category.  Lana Rakow will assist on this project.

 

6.  Establishing validation procedures for after the transition period. Ryan Zerr will create a new validation form and send out to Committee members for discussion.

 

7.  Election of next year’s GERC chair.  Adam Kitzes was nominated for chair.  The nomination passed with 8 in favor of and 1 opposed.

 

8.  Ryan Zerr presented Arts and Science 225, Geography 134 and 134L and Theatre Arts 161 and 330 for revalidation.  Greg Gagnon moved to approve all of the revalidations.  The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

9.  The next meeting will be November 30.

 

10. The meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
