Minutes of General
Education Requirements Committee
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on February 9, in Montgomery Hall room 20.
Matt Cavalli presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Olaf Berwald, Matt Cavalli, Greg Gagnon, Birgit Hans, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Sukhvarsh Jerath, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Lana Rakow, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. Minutes
4. Catalog changes. Matt Cavalli moved to adopt the changes to the General Education catalog language. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
The Registrar’s Office will work on web page setup and bring back to the Committee for review.
5. Student revalidation requests. Greg Gagnon moved to review each student petition on its own merit regardless if class has been approved before. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
6. Validation and revalidation copies. Validation of new courses will require original and 10 copies and be reviewed by the full committee; original and 3 copies are required for revalidation of courses and are reviewed by the subcommittee.
7. Revalidation of Communication category courses. The writing or speaking intensive form does not need to accompany the revalidation request; however, the questions on the relevant form need to be addressed in the revalidation.
8. Acceptance of student petitions. Sukhvarsh Jerath moved to not accept any general education student petitions in the last semester of a student’s degree program. This would be effective Fall 2007. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
Matt Cavalli will notify the Deans of this new policy and submit information to the U letter.
9. World Cultures criteria discussion. No policy was set at this time. Subcommittees will review requests and make recommendations.
