Education Requirements Committee
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on March 9, in Montgomery Hall room 20.
Matt Cavalli presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Olaf Berwald, Matt Cavalli, Sherrie Fleshman, Greg Gagnon, Emanuel Grant, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Sukhvarsh Jerath, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Doug Munski, Lana Rakow, Tom Rand, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. Minutes
4. Computer Science 289 revalidation for math, science and technology general education requirements credit. Ryan Zerr moved approval for provisional validation with additional information to be provided two months after course is taught. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
5. French 101 revalidation for communication and arts and humanities general education requirements credit; French 102 revalidation for arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures; French 201 revalidation for arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures; German 101 revalidation for communication and arts and humanities general education requirements credit; German 102 and 201 revalidation for arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures; German 406 revalidation extension until two months after the course is next taught; Norwegian 101 revalidation for communication and arts and humanities general education requirements credit; Norwegian 201 revalidation for arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures. Adam Kitzes moved to approve all of the revalidations in the categories as listed in the current catalog. The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.
6. Spanish 201 revalidation for arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures. Adam Kitzes moved to approve the request. The motion was voted upon and carried with a vote of 7 in favor of, 1 opposed and 1 abstention.
7. Spanish 101, Russian 101, 102, 201, 161, 162 revalidations. Adam Kitzes moved the revalidations be returned to the departments for revisions and resubmitted. The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.
8. Student petition policy. Matt Cavalli moved to rescind the General Education Committee policy to not accept any general education student petitions in the last semester of a student’s degree program. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
9. Anthropology 170 revalidation for math, science and technology general education requirements credit; Anthropology 100, 171, 172, 200 and 379 revalidations for social science general education requirements credit and world cultures; Anthropology 371 and 377 revalidations for social science general education requirements credit; Anthropology 374 remove from list. Adam Kitzes moved to approve all of the Anthropology requests. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
10. Theatre Arts 226 for new course validation for arts and humanities general education requirements credit. Greg Gagnon moved to approve the request for provisional validation with direct assessment data due two months after course is taught. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
11. The meeting adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
