| Function |
|
| This is a permanent council, chaired
by the Vice President for Research, advising the Vice
President for Research and ultimately the President,
on all matters having to do with research and creative
work. The mission of the Council is to assist the University
in the implementation of the research goals of the University
Strategic Plan. The Council advises the Vice President
for Research on (1) ways and means of encouraging sponsored
work and creative work of all kinds across the University,
(2) identification and elimination of barriers to sponsored
research involvement by the faculty, (3) identification
of sources of support for the full range of creative
work by faculty, and (4) stimulating partnerships and
synergistic interaction between units on and off campus.
The Office of the Vice President for Research will serve
as the base for record-keeping and communication for
the University Research Council Membership. |

| Membership |
|
The University Research Council
will have a broadly representative membership.
Appointments will be made by the President upon
recommendation coming to the Council. Members
will serve staggered three-year terms with one-third
of these terms expiring each year. Appointments
are renewable.
Membership will include at least one
established researcher/scholar from each of
the colleges and research organizations:
• College of Arts and Sciences
• College of Business & Public Administration
• College of Education & Human Development
• College of Nursing
• John D. Odegard School of Aerospace
Sciences
• School of Engineering & Mines
• School of Law
• School of Medicine & Health Sciences
• Energy & Environmental Research
Center (EERC)
• Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research
Center (GFHNRC)
In addition:
• At least one dean selected by the
Council of Deans
• Graduate School Student Senator or designee
• Grand Forks Community Representative
Membership will also include the following
ex officio members:
