- Basic M.A. core:
COMM 500 Graduate Studies in Communication
COMM 501 Theories of Communication
COMM 502 Research Methods in Communication
- A minimum of 30 credits in communication for the thesis option or 32 units for the non-thesis option if a minor or cognate is not chosen;
- If a minor or cognate is approved by the committee, 30 credits are necessary for the thesis option or 32 credits for a non-thesis option which will include a major with a minimum of 20 credits in communication and a minimum of 9 units in a minor cognate;
- If you are an M.A. student, you will take a comprehensive examination following the completion of 18 hours of coursework. If you are a thesis option M.A. candidate, you will defend your thesis in a final oral examination. If you are a non-thesis option M.A. candidate, you will defend independent study reports and two papers or projects completed in any course on your program of study. The Director of Graduate Studies appoints examining committees from the Graduate Faculty. If you are a thesis student, your Faculty Advisory Committee will conduct the final thesis examination.
