Application Process  Application Postmark Deadline March 15, 2008

Apply using this form.  Native Americans and first generation college students encouraged to apply.

Our program will engage undergraduate students in research activities to achieve the following goals:

Encourage interest and advanced training in environmental, gas-phase and gas-solid phase chemical sciences. Students who believe in the worthiness of the profession and can realize the benefits of the research they are performing will be motivated to continue professional development and are likely to learn how to build a sustainable research program.

Equip scientists and engineers to deal with societal issues. The next generation of scientists and engineers will need to reduce the impact of mankind's activities in this area.
SUNRISE is committed to training individuals who will develop the necessary innovative solutions to the environmental problems mankind fosters as we interact with and manipulate our environment.

Promote an understanding of the value of Chemistry-related research for Native American peoples by relating these activities to a tribal context.
Because of their strong affinity to the land, many Native Americans have a natural incentive to strengthen their capabilities for solving environmental problems.

Improve our service to the communities and students resident in the rural farm communities of the upper
Midwest and Western states, especially those who are first-generation college students. When properly trained and motivated, many of these students will return to their agriculture- and energy -rich local communities where outward migration is of significant concern, and focus on the problems germane to their local communities.
