The University of North Dakota, Department of Electrical Engineering (http://www.engineering.und.edu) invites applications for a Postgraduate Research Associate, with a start date of no earlier than August 16, 2008. Candidates with expertise in all areas of digital signal, image, and video processing will be considered. However, preference will be given to candidates with documented expertise in digital image and video enhancement and reconstruction, since the Postgraduate Research Associate will assist in the development of super-resolution image reconstruction and real-time automatic target recognition and tracking algorithms applied to digital video. The primary goal for this individual is to publish high-quality research results and patent any inventions that may result in marketable intellectual property. A secondary goal is to prepare this individual for an academic career through the leadership of student research and design projects. Descriptions of the University of North Dakota, the School of Engineering & Mines, and the Department of Electrical Engineering are available at the listed URL.
This Postgraduate Research Associate will be involved in a Department of Defense-funded project entitled “Real-Time Super-Resolution ATR of UAV-Based Reconnaissance and Surveillance Imagery,” which will investigate feature-domain super-resolution image reconstruction with model-based constraints as a robust and real-time automatic target recognition (ATR) algorithm for reconnaissance and surveillance imagery captured by airborne sensors flown by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The individual will be involved in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence, an interdisciplinary research center at the University of North Dakota that includes the School of Engineering & Mines, the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, the College of Nursing, and the Department of Psychology.
A Ph.D. or M.S. in electrical engineering or a related graduate degree is required. Both hardware and software research and design skills are highly desirable. The position will be a 12-month, full-time (i.e., 40 hours per week), regular (i.e., benefited), non-tenure-track academic staff appointment, with the possibility of annual renewal pending performance and the availability of funds. Please send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names of three professional references to Richard R. Schultz, Ph.D., Professor & Chair, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of North Dakota, Upson Hall II Room 160, 243 Centennial Drive Stop 7165, Grand Forks, ND 58202-7165. Questions regarding position expectations may be sent to RichardSchultz@mail.und.edu , with applications sent as attachments to this same e-mail address. invites applications for the following positions beginning August 16, 2007:
• Visiting Professor (teaching or blend of teaching/research)
• Post Doctoral Research Fellow (polymer synthesis or heterogeneous catalysis)
• Lecturer (teaching only)
Due to the recent success of our sustainable energy research program, we are looking to fill nontenured positions in Chemical Engineering. We strive to achieve excellence as a department in both teaching and research. One of our strengths is the commitment to building a strong rapport between students and faculty. We maintain small class sizes, an open office hours policy, and a commitment by all faculty to helping all students to maximize their potential. We provide an environment that fosters mutual respect and maximizes learning. The department was awarded the 2005 University Award of Excellence in Research and the 2007 University Award for Excellence in Teaching. One of our strengths is extensive departmental and interdepartmental research collaboration.
Applicants for the Visiting Professor position should possess B.S. and Ph.D degrees in chemical engineering or a closely related field. Duties can be either full teaching load or a blend of teaching and research. A passion for teaching excellence in core chemical engineering undergraduate and graduate courses is necessary. Qualifications to teach Process Controls is desired. Research area is open but resources are available to those working in the areas of renewable fuels, biopolymers, coal combustion, or heterogeneous catalysis. Some Departmental service duties will be required.
The post-doctoral research fellow position requires a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field and expertise and experience in one of the following research areas: synthesis, characterization, and testing of catalysts, particularly zeolites and other solid-acid catalysts or Polymer synthesis and or polymer characterization using techniques including DSC, DMA, NMR, FTIR, and tensile and impact testing.
Applicants for the Lecturer position must possess a B.S. degree in chemical engineering and either a Ph.D. degree or significant applied industrial experience. Strong communications skills, a passion for teaching excellence in core chemical engineering undergraduate courses, and qualifications to teach Process Controls are desired.
