Both programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The Department of Social Work is in the top 25% in the total number of students enrolled in undergraduate programs at UND and the top 15% in the total number of enrolled graduate students. According to the 2006 Princeton Review, UND has “a great social work program.” We have a strong presence on campus and in the external social work practice community with 166 agencies contracted to provide field instruction to our students throughout North Dakota and Minnesota .

The Department of Social Work at the University of North Dakota activities are guided by its mission statement which is to prepare entry-level and advanced generalist Social Workers for the region to advance practice knowledge , values and skills consistent with the highest ideals of the profession by:
