Social Work Student Associations
'

The two social work student associations, the Social Work Club and Phi Alpha are both involved in planning educational, service, and socialization activities. All students are welcome to attend meetings and participate in activities. Membership is not required. Look for posted meeting times around the department.

Phi Alpha
Phi Alpha, the National Social Work Honorary Society, aims to provide recognition for scholastic achievement of individual students, promote interest in social work as a profession, and encourages fellowship among those training for this profession. Phi Alpha encourages student scholarship, good citizenship, and the practice of high ethical standards. Student members of Phi Alpha are nominated for membership twice a year. To be eligible for membership the student must have a 3.00 overall GPA, a 3.5 cumulative GPA in social work courses, Junior standing and a faculty endorsement. Eligibility for members for graduate students include a 3.00 GPA, completion of 55 credit hours and a faculty endorsement.

Student Social Work Club

The Student Social Work Club aims to promote interest in social work as a profession and encourage fellowship among social work students. The association is open to all current and prospective social work majors.

•  Promote interest in Social Work as a profession.
•  Provide for professional development of its members.
•  Encourage fellowship among social work students.
•  Give recognition to the attainments of individual students.
•  Provide for an increased awareness of Social Work among University students. and community through student initiated projects.
•  Provide experience to increase mutual understanding among peoples of all cultures, the disadvantaged, and persons with disabilities.
•  Stimulate student interest and involvement in Social Work related issues.
•  Organize a yearly Social Work banquet.
•  Provide an opportunity for members to meet and communicate with Social Work students across the country.
•  Provide an opportunity for members to develop leadership skills.
