The team uses a high-performance weather graphics system developed by Weather Services International, an industry leader in the delivery of weather information. The Weather Channel, NBC’s Today Show and Fox Network use the same software.

Weather Team

JOB DESCRIPTION
The weather team works at the Aerospace Network (ASN) and produces the weather segments of the show.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Pre-production:
1. Works with the weather producer anchor to gathers data from various sources to produce elements of the weather segments.
2. Works with the weather anchor to prepare a national, regional and a current condition synopsis.
3. Works with the weather anchor to develop a three-day forecast.
4. Prepares weather graphics and works with the RWIC director and Studio One senior director to coordinate the logistics of the weather segments.

Production:
1. Operates the production switcher, audio board and graphics computer, when needed.

Post-production:
1. Works with the weather producer and anchor to improve show elements.

REQUIREMENTS
The following criteria will be used to evaluate candidates. Candidates must have three of the following:
1. Demonstrated meteorology experience in radio and/or television. This includes an understanding of general weather patterns and meteorology terminology.
2. Successful completion of courses that relate to this job description. As a minimum candidates must have completed an introductory course in synoptic meteorology.
3. Strong communication and organizational skills.
4. Experience with computers and graphic software.
5. Ability to work individually and as a member of a team, when required.

In addition, candidates must be available during the following time slots:

Wednesdays 3:00 – 4:00 P.M.
Thursdays 2:00 - 6:30 P.M.

Hours are subject to change depending on circumstances. Positions on the weather team are non-paid. Applicants who are available for both fall and spring semester are preferred, but consideration will be given to qualified candidates that are only available for one semester.

Weather Producer

JOB DESCRIPTION
The weather producer is a student leadership position. The weather producer serves on the Studio One Executive Council, the Board of Directors and provides leadership to the weather team. The weather producer works with the executive director and senior weather director and provides leadership to the weather team. The weather producer works at the UND's Aerospace Network (ASN) and produces the weather segments of the show. The weather producer helps establish team goals and may conduct weekly staff meetings.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Pre-production:
1. Gathers data from various sources to produce elements of the weather segments.
2. Prepares a national summary of current weather events.
3. Provides an educational explanation of weather events.
4. Prepares weather graphics and works with the senior weather producer and Studio One senior director to coordinate the logistics of the weather segments.
5. Works with anchor to develop ad-lib segments.

Production:
1. Works with the producer to make rundown changes during the live telecast.
2. Provides leadership during weather segments and works with weather team members during the live telecast.

Post-production:
1. Works with the executive director and anchor to improve show elements.

1. Demonstrated meteorology experience in radio and/or television. This includes an understanding of general weather patterns and meteorology terminology.

4. Experience in a leadership role.
5. Experience with computers and graphic software.

Weather Anchor

JOB DESCRIPTION
The weather anchor works at Aerospace Network (ASN), anchors and helps produce the weather segments of the show.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Pre-production:
1. Gathers data from various sources to produce elements of the weather segments.
2. Prepares a national summary of current weather events.
3. Provides an educational explanation of weather events.
4. Prepares weather graphics and works with the Studio One senior weather director and Studio One Executive Director to coordinate the logistics of the weather segments.
5. Works with other cast members to develop ad-lib segments.

Production:
1. Works with the producer to make rundown changes during the live telecast.
2. Anchors weather segments and works with other cast members during ad-lib segments.

Post-production:
1. Works with the producer and anchor to improve show elements.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The weather anchor is required to follow the guidelines established by the executive directors for on-camera presentation. Anchor will not alter their appearance without first seeking approval from their team leader. Team leaders will not approve the following: visibly pierced facial parts with body rings; drastic changes in hair color; drastic changes in hair length, including hair extensions; and/or facial tattoos. Weather anchors will be expected to read copy and accurately pronounce words at a style and rate consistent with national broadcast standards. In addition, the weather anchor cannot publicly endorse products, services or political campaigns.

The following criteria will be used to evaluate candidates. Candidates must have five of the following:
1. Demonstrated meteorology experience in radio and/or television. This includes an understanding of general weather patterns and meteorology terminology.
2. Posess a video which shows anchoring ability on live television.
3. Successful completion of courses that relate to this job description. As a minimum, candidates must have completed an introductory course in synoptic meteorology.
4. Strong communication and organizational skills.
5. Experience in a leadership role.
6. Ability to project a professional presence on television.
7. Experience with computers and graphic software.
8. Ability to work individually and as a member of a team, when required.

In addition, candidates must be available during the following time slots:

Wednesdays 3:00 – 4:00 P.M.
Thursdays 2:00 - 6:30 P.M.
