The University Children's Center (UCC) at the University of North Dakota provides quality care and education for young children. UCC also serves as an important training center for UND students, including students majoring in elementary education, early childhood education, special education, or students from other departments. These students take their knowledge of young children out into the world when they graduate, becoming leaders in their fields.
UCC is a child care center organization that puts the child first. Teachers with four-year degrees provide an engaging and supportive environment for the optimum development of young children. Children are encouraged in their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth. The emergent curriculum builds on young children's interests, providing a rich learning environment. Play and interaction with peers, hands-on learning experiences, problem-solving approaches to interpersonal conflict, and respect for children's choices and for each child are the keys in this successful curriculum. Graduate students can take advantage of the opportunities offered by the UCC which include practical teaching, or administration in research, and other related learning activities.
