IMPACT U: Personal Safety/Defense

IMPACT Self-Defense

WHAT IS IMPACT
IMPACT U: Personal Safety/Self Defense is a highly specialized self-defense program offered through UND that teaches participants to successfully knock out an assailant of any size.

The course is based on the idea that learning is best accomplished by "doing." A specialized trained "mugger" instructor dons state-of-the-art customized padding so that students can practice the full-force defensive tactics. Students learn to deliver effective strikes and kicks to vital areas while fighting in scenarios that are as realistic as possible.

IMPACT U understands that fighting back is an emotional as well as a physical process and provides a supportive environment for healing and learning. All courses are taught in teams of female and male instructors highly trained in dealing with emotional process.

Choices, Changes, Empowerment
Learn simple, effective self-defense skills. These are techniques any woman, regardless of age or fitness level, can do.

Practice in a safe environment. The female instructor teaches and demonstrates all the techniques and coaches students while they practice. The male instructors are highly trained to allow you to hit and kick with full force.

Understand how to use your emotions to help you become stronger and safer. A woman's fear and anger are tremendous sources of power when used in her defense.

Reasons for taking IMPACT-U
There are as many reasons for taking a self-defense class as there are individual women.

Some women take a course as part of their healing process from past assault and/or abuse.

Some women who have never personally experienced any sort of physical violence, yet are affected by images of the victimization of women, take the classes because they are aware of how these images have caused their own lives to be restricted.

Still others take the classes to learn options to experience more freedom (i.e. while traveling, jogging, etc.)
