Located on the 2nd floor, the library contains over 2,000 books pertaining to women's issues. Books are catalogued and may be checked out. The library also contains a variety of videos on many different subjects. Videos may also be checked out.

Advertising and the End of the World
Advertising & the End of the World features an illustrated presentation by Sut Jhally of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the producer and writer of the award-winning Dreamworlds II. Focusing directly on the world of commercial images, he asks some basic questions about the cultural messages emanating from this market-based view of the world: Do our present arrangements deliver what they claim-- happiness and satisfaction? Can we think about our collective as well as our private interests? And, can we think long-term as well as short-term?

American Eyes
"American Eyes" confronts the problem of racial prejudice and the dilemma it creates. At issue are not only an individual's self-esteem and cultural identity, but an understanding and acceptance of America's ever-growing and diverse ethnic heritage. This contemporary drama will serve as a catalyst for classroom discussions on a number of related topics including America's pluralistic society, minority rights, contributions of multiethnic and multiracial groups, values, stereotyping, decision-making and family relations. "...highlights issues of self-esteem, sibling rivalry, adoption, stereotypes, and communication...incorporates several good examples of conflict resolution."

Beyond Killing Us Softly: The Strength to Resist
A 33 minute documentary about the fight against the toxic and degrading messages to girls and women that dominate the media.

Binge Drinking Blow Out:
The Extreme Dangers of Alcohol Use. Binge drinking is a serious problem on many college campuses today. Recent news stories have highlighted this problem and the subsequent deaths of young men and women who have become victims of a rampant partying atmosphere. This video provides an excellent forum for discussion about a nationwide problem that can take the lives of students across the country during "hell-week" and throughout the year.

Coping With Stress
This program analyzes the role of stress in day-to-day life and in overall physical and mental health. Sources of stress are identified and techniques for managing stress are suggested.

Conspiracy of Silence, The
There is a conspiracy of silence that surrounds domestic violence. This documentary focuses on the efforts of one organization to help battered women and their children with safe shelter and counseling.

DreamWorlds II
This video combines powerful imagery from some two hundred videos with incisive narrative to educate viewers on the impact of sexual imagery in music videos.

Getting It
In "Getting it", four college students candidly discuss communicating about sex in the campus environment. After hearing their stories, it becomes clear that sexual communication, something that "should be so simple", is actually quite confusing. In This video two women and two men describe their successes and failures in negotiating sex, reflect on the role of communication in this process, and offer suggestions for improving sexual dialogue between men and women.

Love's Not Supposed To Hurt
Presented to a live audience of college students, this video provides the impetus for discussion, awareness, and understanding of the complex issue of dating violence. Designed for young adults, Love's Not Supposed to Hurt also investigates other important areas connected to physical violence such as stalking, harassment, the role of alcohol in violent behavior, self-esteem and emotional abuse.

Mirror, Mirror
Two women candidly share their personal stories about their struggle with anorexia and bulimia. Another woman shares her story about struggling to help her anorexic friend.

Off the Straight & Narrow
How are we to make sense of the transformation in gay representation, from virtual invisibility before 1970 to the "gay chic" of the 1990's? This is the first in-depth documentary to cast a critical eye over the growth of gay images on television. Leading media scholars provide the historical and cultural context for exploring the social implications of these new representations.

Perfect Body, The
Perfect Body is designed for college and high school students who want to explore and understand the role of media, personal pressure, and peer influence in the development of poor body image.

Rachel's Daughters: Searching for the Causes of Breast Cancer
From the makers of the Oscar-winning In the Shadow of The Stars, this fascinating documentary follows a group of women - all breast cancer activists who are fighting or have survived the disease - who are on a personal mission to unearth the causes of breast cancer.

Rape Under the Influence
This hard-hitting documentary focuses discussion on the realities of date rape when alcohol and drugs are used.

Recovering Bodies
In Recovering Bodies the stories and testimonies of seven college students show the wide range of pressures that can lead to disordered eating.

Reviving Ophelia
In this exclusive, illustrated video, Mary Pipher, Ph.D., discusses the challenges facing today's teenagers, especially girls, as well as the role of media and popular culture in shaping their identities. She offers concrete ideas for girls and boys, families, teachers, and schools to help girls free themselves from the toxic influences of today's media-saturated culture.

Safe: Inside a Battered Woman's Shelter
This captivating new program looks at women's lives after they have left their abusers and as they deal with the complex issues of separation, the legal system, the impact of domestic violence on their children and their own recovery from abuse. This video also examines the issues women face when living in a shelter environment with their children and adapting to living with other survivors of domestic abuse.

Searching for Hope:
This video follows the true-life story of one young woman's search for understanding about her bulimia as well as eating disorders affecting her peers. This program portrays intelligent, strong, courageous people who are suffering or are recovering from a variety of eating disorders. Discussions with experts about the causes and solutions make this a valuable resource for parents, educators and victims.

Sexual Harassment
This program, addressed to both men and women, offers a comprehensive, non-threatening discussion of the nature of sexual harassment in campus and institutional settings as well as what can be done to prevent it.

Slim Hopes
Jean Kilbourne's award-winning video offers an in-depth analysis of how female bodies are depicted in advertising images and the devastating effects of those images on women's health.

Small Justice
This new program explores the family court system which routinely takes children away from the protective parent and puts them in the care of the person the children have named as their abuser.

Still Killing Us Softly
Jean Kilbourne looks candidly at how women are portrayed through the media.

Thin at Any Cost:Treating Eating Disorders
This ABC News program spotlights the work of Dr. Angela Guarda, of The Johns Hopkins University, and other therapists of Johns Hopkins Medicine in treating women with anorexia and bulimia. Footage of candid group therapy sessions, which include a 21-year-old with a family history of eating disorders as well as other residents at Hopkins' in-patient psychiatric clinic, provides insights into the root causes of these devastating illnesses.

Tough Guise
Tough Guise is the first educational video geared toward college and high school students to systematically examine the relationship between images of popular culture and the social construction of masculine identities in the U.S. at the dawn of the 21st century.

Understanding Prejudice
This thought-provoking program discusses the nature of prejudice and the effect it has on individuals and society as a whole.

Understanding Race
Topics include the anthropological unity of Homo Sapiens; sanctioned discrimination, such as segregation; cultural biases based on racial stereotypes; and the underlying humanity that inextricably links us all.

When A Kiss Is Not Just A Kiss:Sex Without Consent
Taped before a live audience of first year college students, When a Kiss is Not Just a Kiss is a powerful narrative story designed to elicit thinking and dialogue on sexual assault and the effects of drinking on decision-making. Based upon a highly successful program created by Toby Simon, When a Kiss is Not Just a Kiss is an interactive, spontaneous dialogue where questions and answers reveal the truth about sex without consent.

When Food Becomes an Obsession
This highly-regarded film is recommended nationally by the Eating Disorders Awareness & Prevention Organization (EDAP), and has been presented by the American Anorexia Bulimia Association (AABA), and promoted by the esteemed Renfrew Clinic for Eating Disorders.

Women & Depression
Clinical depression affects 19 million Americans, of whom two-thirds are women. This program from The Doctor Is In addresses the good news about depression: it is a diagnosable and treatable illness. Valerie Davis Raskin, a therapist and research psychiatrist whose practice is solely dedicated to women, and Ardis Olsen, a physician and researcher at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, are joined by patients and their families to explain the symptoms, effects, and treatment of depression.
