1910

During
the University's early years, dancing was forbidden
between the sexes, though men and women were allowed
to dance with members of their own sex. In 1918,
the University was hit with a flu epidemic that struck
the entire nation. The disease caused 1400 deaths
in North Dakota, and UND was the hardest-hit single
institution in the nation. That fall, UND was well
on the way to becoming an army camp, similar to many
other institutions across the nation. Classes were
suspended for what was thought to be a day, but they
didn't resume until 1919, long after the student
army trainees had left to fight in World War I. |
