The human race prides itself on being able to control things. Most people
want complete control over what happens to them in their lives. The planet
we live on doesn't always allow us to fulfill that. Sometimes we really
have no control over the planet. This is seen when geologic hazards such
as volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, and mud slides take over areas and destroy
everything in their path. They leave us feeling helpless, confused, and
often in awe. There is really nothing we can do to prevent these hazards
so we must learn to live with them. By studying the hazards and gaining
knowledge on how they form, we can try to predict when a natural hazard
may next occur. Through this knowledge, lives may be saved and complete
surprise can be avoided.
Now let's find out what you know about geologic hazards by playing some
