- What is SAS?
SAS stands for Student Affiliates of Seventeen. SAS is a national student organization that is affiliated with Division 17 - The Society of Counseling Psychology. SAS is designated to address the needs of the students in the field of Counseling Psychology.
- What is a host institution?
Every three years the leadership of SAS is transferred to a new host institution or university. The current host is the University of North Dakota. The previous host institutions are listed below:
- Marquette University (2004-2007)
- University of Akron (2001-2004)
- University of Missouri - Kansas City (1998-2001)
- University of Utah (1995-1998)
- Southern Illinois University (1992-1995)
- University of Southern Mississippi (1989-1992)
- University of Illinois (1986-1989)
- University of Maryland (1983-1986)
- The Ohio State University (1980-1983)
- University of Iowa (1977-1980)
- How do I join SAS?
As a student affiliate of the American Psychological Association and a Division 17 you are automatically a member of SAS. Membership dues are $17 based on a calendar year.
- What is Division 17?
Division 17 - Society of Counseling Psychology brings together psychologists, students, professional and international affiliates who are dedicated to promoting education and training, scientific investigation, practice, and diversity and public interest in professional psychology. The Division contains sections representing Advancement of Women; Counseling Health Psychology; Ethnic and Racial Diversity; Independent Practice; International; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Awareness; Positive Psychology; Prevention; Promotion of Psychotherapy Science; Supervision and Training; University and College Counseling Centers; and Vocational Psychology. Other Special Interest Groups also exist. Membership is open to masters- or doctoral-level psychologists whose interests and activities support the advancement of counseling psychology. Six issues of the journal The Counseling Psychologist and three issues of the Division 17 Newsletter are sent to members each year. Student members are welcome to affiliate with Division 17 through membership in the Student Affiliates of Seventeen (SAS). Non-APA members may join the Division as professional or international affiliates.
