Pillar 2 - Education
By virtue of being graduate students, SAS members have a keen interest in learning. Education plays a vital role in awareness about current issues that affect the field, as well as eases the transition from student to professional. To assist with the transition we will offer professional development workshops at major conferences in our region. The contents of these workshops will be disseminated through SASchat. Funding for travel and expenses for speakers at these workshops has been secured from our Dean of the Graduate School. Early career counseling psychologists will be contacted to speak about the transition process; they can respond to questions from aspiring professionals and can help advise on the change from the student realm to the professional one.
To further these endeavors, there will be additional website expansions with a focus on education. These changes will include providing: a central location where job-seekers can post curriculum vitae for feedback and obtain information regarding interview preparation, information regarding state licensure requirements, study resources for the Exam for the Practice of Professional Psychology (EPPP), lists of student-friendly organizations, and links to websites that promote awareness of current events and issues in the field of psychology. The website will also include a financial section with information about student loans, and available scholarships, fellowships, and grants, in addition to a separate section providing links to step-by-step guides regarding gaining admission into graduate school, obtaining placement on accredited internships, writing curriculum vitae and professional resumes, writing grants, and publishing research.
