Name: Gamma Phi Beta Founded: November 11, 1874 in Syrcuse NY Symbol: Crescent The official symbol of Gamma Phi Beta is the crescent moon, both ends pointed upwards to represent the sorority's constant growth. Symbolizing strong and constant love; its light burns steadily offering true friendship and loyalty. Colors: Brown & Mode (Pink) The Sorority changed its colors, originally light and dark blue, to light and dark brown in 1875 to Honor Dr. J.J.Brown, whose study was used for the Friday afternoon meetings of Gamma Phi Beta. Open Motto: Founded Upon A Rock Jewel: Pearl Gamma Phi Beta’ s jewel is the pearl. No two pearls are alike. Each pearl is beautiful on its own and when strung together. We are beautiful individuals and we are beautiful together as members of Gamma Phi Beta. Flower: Pink Carnation (means everlasting friendship) In 1888 the carnation became the Sorority flower; pink was designated its official color in 1950. It was selected for its strength and longevity. Object: The object of this organization shall be to develop the highest type of womanhood through Gamma Phi Beta education, social life, and service tocommunity and humanity. Creed: Love, Labor, Learning, & Loyalty Loyalty means adherence to all true and noble things; Learning enriches all days with magic gold; Labor that each hour will glorify the simple, common task, the common cause; Love that will be strong and great enough to encompass and to pity all the world. Four Founders: Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, Mary A. Bingham Badge: The Gamma Phi Beta badge was designed by Tiffany & Co. jewelry and was voted most beautiful badge. Mission: To foster a nurturing environment that provides women the opportunity to achieve their potential through lifelong commitment to intellectual growth, individual worth and service to humanity. Purpose: Gamma Phi Beta from the past has given a heritage that makes a fuller life. Gamma Phi Beta in the present bids us strive for lasting values and ideals. Gamma Phi Beta in the days to come will prove that fundamentals can endure. Therefore we shall embody in our lives the truths that make for finer womanhood. Vision: To be a premiere women’s organization with a winning spirit through: seeking cultural, demographic and economic diversity, the development of chapter, community and interfraternal leaders, providing programming which addresses issues relevant to women and society, the strengthening of resources, a focus on being member-driven, and management of the organization through volunteerism Crest: The coat-of-arms was designed in 1915 by Gertrude Comfort Morrow (California-Berekley).
