Call for Papers

The Program Committee is now accepting papers for presentation at the meeting. Oral presentations or posters addressing any aspect of geography are welcome. All presentation must include an abstract that will be included in the conference program. Only participants registered for the meeting may present a paper. One presentation per registrant please. Students are encouraged to enter the competitions for best undergraduate and graduate student papers and best student poster (see the next page for details).

Oral or Poster Presentations: (Abstract Deadline: Sept. 4, 2008)

Oral presentations will be on Saturday, Sept. 13, and will be limited to 15 minutes with an additional five minutes for questions and/or discussion. LCD projectors will be provided. Please contact us if you need other types of presentation equipment (overhead projector, slide projector, etc.). Posters will be displayed throughout the day on Saturday, Sept. 13. Each poster presenter will be provided with a 40 x 60 inch foamcore panel on which to mount their poster. Pins and tape for mounting posters to the panels will be provided. Please note that non-laminated posters mount best on the boards.

Everyone who wishes to present a paper must submit an abstract of no more than 250 words, using the format outlined below. Please include a title. Abstracts will be published in the conference program.

▪Include the e-mail address for the primary author (presenter) only.

▪Text should be single-spaced.

▪Do not insert any codes for justification, hyphenation, line height, line centering,

margins, spacing, fonts, page centering or page numbering.

▪Abstracts may not be edited so please proofread your entry carefully.

Please save your abstract as a Microsoft Word file, using the following format:

Lastname_Firstname.doc (e.g., Jones_Jane.doc). Submit your abstract by e-mail as an e-mail attachment to: bradley_rundquist@und.nodak.edu. Please use “AAG ABSTRACT - ORAL”, “AAG ABSTRACT -POSTER”, “ASPRS ABSTRACT- ORAL” or “ASPRS ABSTRACT - POSTER” as the e-mail subject heading. The presenters of oral papers should indicate in the e-mail if any projection equipment other than an LCD projector is required. Students should indicate in the e-mail their intention to participate in the student paper or poster competition, whether they are a graduate or an undergraduate student, and ASPRS or AAG competition.

Student Paper Competition

All students attending the 2008 AAG GPRM and ASPRS UMC annual conference are invited to participate in a competition for best paper or best poster. Students may compete in one of eight categories: (1) best AAG undergraduate paper, (2) best AAG graduate student paper (MA or MS), (3) best AAG graduate paper (PhD), (4) best AAG student poster, (5) best ASPRS undergraduate paper, (6) best ASPRS graduate student paper (MA or MS), (7) best ASPRS graduate paper (PhD), and (8) best ASPRS student poster. All papers and posters entered into the competition must report on original research conducted primarily by the student presenting the paper or poster. All competitors must register for the conference. Papers and posters will be judged on the basis of content, organization, style, graphics, and, in the case of papers, quality of oral presentation. The winners in each category will receive a $100 cash prize. Second place finishers in each category will receive a $50 prize. Students wishing to enter the competition must submit an abstract no later than Aug. 29, 2008 (see details above).
