The Things They Carried

As part of the National Endowment for the Arts "Big Read" event series, Tim O'Brien will be leading a book discussion and answering questions regarding The Things They Carried at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Chester Fritz Auditorium, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. The event is open to the public. Also open to the public is a small scale book discussion to be held in conjunction with the Northern Great Plains History Conference. On Friday, October 15, 2010, at 2:00 at the Clarion Inn, interested scholars, community members and conferees will have the opportunity to discuss the book on a more intimate scale.
TIM O'BRIEN received the 1979 National Book Award in fiction for Going After Cacciato. His other works include the acclaimed novels The Things They Carried and July, July. In the Lake of the Woods received the James Fenimore Cooper Prize from the Society of American Historians and was named the best novel of 1994 by Time. O'Brien lives in Austin, Texas.
