COMMITTEE MEETING
February 17, 2009

Susan Nelson called
the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m. in the Memorial Room of the Memorial
Union.
Minutes: Bev Hopman stated there were
two changes to the minutes as submitted.
Gail Ingwailson’s name was added to those in attendance and the starting
time of the meeting was changed to 4:32 p.m.
Paul Todhunter moved the minutes from the January 20, 2009, meeting be
approved as amended. Glenn Olsen seconded. Motion carried.
Faculty Athletic Representative Report, Sue
Jeno:
- Sue Jeno reported that Amanda Kaler
received the $6000 scholarship NCAA Women's Enhancement
Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics. She is still waiting for word on the
Walter Byers Scholarship and the fall post-graduate scholarship
applications.
- The
deadline for the NCAA scholarship applications for the winter sports is
March 19. The spring deadline is
May 14.
Departmental Updates, Daniella Irle:
- Athletics will be implanting programs to
enhance student-athlete life skills.
- One priority area will be educating
student-athletes on how inappropriate postings on Facebook can impact
their future; from identity theft to future job possibilities. C.L. Lindsay will be presenting a
lecture on social networking on April 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Memorial
Union Ballroom. The program is
open to the public and all student-athletes will be required to attend.
- Progress reports went out last
week. Jon Jackson asked if there
was the possibility of distributing these reports electronically. Daniella Irle stated that Athletics does
not have the man power to do that at this time.
- The student-athlete recently charged
with criminal activity on campus has been suspended from the football team
and has withdrawn from school. The
Dean of Students Office will continue handling this incident based on
their policies.
- 3 student-athletes have been recognized
as WCHA Scholar Athletes. They are
Chay Genoway, Casie Hanson and Brittany Kirkham.
- Women in Sports will be celebrated on
February 21.
- Two new athletic positions have just been posted with Human
Resources; an accounting tech and an assistant strength coach.
- Jeremy
Jones asked what the status was on the repair of the hot tub in the Hyslop
pool area. Daniella Irle said she
signed off on paperwork to get estimates on repairs over one month ago.
Next Meeting Date: Due to spring break, the next IAC meeting
will be March 24. The April and May
meetings are for April 21 and May 19.
All of the meetings will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Room of the Union.
