Paul Todhunter called the
meeting to order at
Minutes: The minutes from the
Department Updates:
Frozen Four: Tom Buning gave an update on the Frozen Four
ticket distribution. Fighting Sioux Club
members will receive top priority. UND
will not receive any revenue distribution for participation in the Men’s hockey
Division I Championships.
Media Rights: The TV broadcast contract is being amended
with WDAZ. Radio is being done as request
for payment next month.
Facilities: A facilities master plan is being developed
by JLG Architects with AE2S.
Budget: The budget process is underway. The coaches have been given their numbers.
Personnel: New hires within the Athletic Department are:
Cory Hilliard, Assistant AD – Business Operations, transfer from the Memorial
Union; Katy Peterson, Head Volleyball Coach, from
Student Seating: A meeting will be held to discuss student
seating in the future.
Ticket Prices: Athletics will try to hold ticket prices
level for next year. Pricing may be
affected by the number of events scheduled.
Operation Enduring Friendship: Some procedural changes may be implemented in
the ticket distribution policy.
Deficiencies: Deficiencies have been mailed out and only 24
student-athletes have two or more F’s.
Reclassification Study: Paul Todhunter asked if more academic support
would be needed if more marginal student-athletes were recruited. Sue Jeno said that Division I recruits need
to be more academically prepared initially and are monitored closely for
continuing eligibility. The UND
Admissions Office has a good outreach program.
Paul Todhunter questioned whether a move to Division I would make it
necessary for UND to eliminate any sports programs. Tom Buning said the hope is to maintain the
current offerings. It is not known
whether the final reclassification report will be published on UND’s
website. Bruce Smith said the football
letterwinners would like to visit with President Kupchella about some issues
regarding reclassification.
Letterwinners: A list of proposed letterwinners for women’s
golf, football, men’s swimming, women’s swimming, men’s hockey and men’s
basketball was submitted for approval.
Judy DeMers moved the letterwinners be approved as recommended by their
head coaches. Lowell Schweigert
seconded. Motion carried. A list of letterwinners is attached.
Schedules: Several 2006-07 team schedules were submitted
to the IAC for approval. Tom Buning said
Athletics is still working on the football schedule for next year. Judy DeMers moved to table the vote to
approve the schedules until all the sport schedules could be reviewed. Lowell Schweigert seconded. Motion carried.
Swimming Trip: The IAC received a letter from Maviael
Sampaio, head swimming coach, requesting permission to take the swim team to
