ATTENDING:   Cory Absey, Charlie Bridgeford, Judy DeMers, Brian Faison, Greg Gagnon, Scott Herring, Gail Ingwailson, Daniella Irle, Sue Jeno, Susan Nelson, Glenn Olsen, Lowell Schweigert, Bruce Smith

Recorder:  Bev Hopman

Susan Nelson called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Room of the Memorial Union.

Minutes:  Greg Gagnon moved the minutes from the March 24, 2009, meeting be approved.  Gail Ingwailson seconded.  Motion carried.

Letterwinners:  A list of letterwinners as proposed by the head coaches in baseball, men’s hockey and tennis was submitted for approval.  Sue Jeno moved the letterwinners be approved as recommended by the head coaches.  Lowell Schweigert seconded.  Motion carried.  The list of letterwinners is attached.

Schedules:  Proposed schedules for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s hockey, soccer and volleyball were presented for review.  Brian Faison stated that next season will be the first year that UND will be required to play a full Division I schedule which makes scheduling more difficult.  Often the coaches are put in the situation of needing to respond immediately to a scheduling opportunity.  Greg Gagnon moved to accept the schedules as presented.  Charlie Bridgeford seconded.  Motion carried.  Greg Gagnon said the committee should entertain a discussion to evaluate the role of the IAC in scheduling.  Glenn Olsen said the committee should examine the charge as set by the University Senate.  Any recommended changes would need to be approved by the Senate.

Code of Conduct/Drug Testing Policy:  Brian Faison said that both the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct and the Drug Testing Policy are with Legal Counsel.  He is not certain when they will be returned.  A May meeting was recommended so the IAC will have the opportunity to review and approve both documents.  Copies will be e-mailed to all IAC members as soon as Athletics receives them from the Legal Counsel’s Office.

Departmental Updates:

-WCHA Meetings:  Brian Faison will be attending the annual WCHA meetings April 25 – 28.  Bemidji State’s application to the WCHA will be a major topic of discussion.  UND as an institution will support Bemidji’s application.

-Budget:  A draft of projected actual revenue and expenses compared to adjusted budget was distributed by Scott Herring.  He has been meeting with coaches to discuss budgeting needs for FY10.  Bruce Smith asked if the budget figures were close to the original projections.  He stated there is a perception that Athletics move to Division I has negatively affected the overall UND budget.  Scott Herring said the budget projections were close.

- Brian Faison said UND will be taking over some of the marketing functions that are currently handled by REA.  This will allow packaging of advertising and sponsorships.   Plans are also underway to take the broadcasts in-house which will allow more opportunities to leverage revenue.

-Brian Faison reported that Playmakers at the Canad Inn will be having a grand opening on April 24 of the All-American Lounge which will feature UND Athletics.  The Canad Inn will commit to a $75,000 impact scholarship at the event.

-The spring football game is on Saturday, April 25.

-The Athletics website is being redesigned to make it more user friendly.  New sections are also being added.

-Staff performance evaluations are being completed as each sports season ends.

-The DI Transition Committee will be meeting and must have the updated strategic plan submitted by June 1.

-The Athletics Spring Awards Program is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom.
