The Network is the national organization that proactively addresses the issues of alcohol, other drugs, and violence in order to promote healthy campus environments through self-regulatory initiatives, information dissemination, and technical assistance. The Network serves as a liaison between the U.S. Department of Education and member institutions as well as other higher education professional organizations. Members institutions encourage and enhance local, state, regional , and national initiatives through a commitment to shared standards for policy development, educational strategies, enforcement, evaluation, and community collaboration.
The Network has been in existence since 1987. Originally formed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education, The Network has grown to involve approximately 1,500 institution s of higher education.
One of the first initiatives of The Networks was the establishment of a set of standards for member institutions.
North Dakota is located in the North Dakota-South Dakota-Minnesota Region. The focus of the North Dakota-South Dakota-Minnesota Region is to empower colleges and universities to create positive change and reduce alcohol and drug use and violence related incidents on campus. This mission is achieved through providing training and technical assistance.
