National Residence Hall Honorary
Constitution
Article I Name
The name of this organization shall be
the Mark Hudson UND Chapter of the
National Residence Hall Honorary.
Article II Purpose
The purpose of this organization shall
be to provide recognition for those
individuals living in residence halls
who have contributed outstanding
service and who have provided
important leadership in the
advancement of the residence hall
system of the University of North
Dakota; and to provide a means by
which they can continue to use these
qualities in developing other leaders.
Article III Membership
Section l Qualifications
A. Shall have a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.0.
B. Lived in the residence
halls at least one semester during the
academic year in which they are
nominated.
C. Shall have exhibited
outstanding leadership and service in
the residence hall system.
Section 2 Types of
Membership
A. Active Membership
1. Defined as a member of
NRHH who has enrolled at UND.
2. Active members
constitute the entire voting body of
NRHH.
3. Active membership shall
not exceed one percent of the total
number of hall residents on the UND
campus.
4. Defined as those who
reside in University Housing.
B. Alumni Membership
1. Defined as a member of
NRHH who has left UND.
2. NRHH members still
enrolled at UND may declare themselves
to be active.
3. Alumni members are
invited to participate in all NRHH
activities.
4. Alumni members may not
vote.
5. Defined as those who
have left University Housing.
C. Honorary Membership
1. The voting membership
selects honorary member(s) each year
in recognition of outstanding service
to the residence hall system.
Section 3 ARH
Membership
The UND Chapter of the National
Residence Hall Honorary shall be a
member of the Association of Residence
Halls.
Section 4 Membership
Status
A. In the spring of the
year, before nomination of new members
takes place, all active members must
declare whether they will have active
or alumni status for the next academic
year.
B. At this time, former
alumni members may become active again
if they meet the requirements.
Article IV Selection
Section 1 Nomination
A. Nominations must be made
on the nomination form approved by the
organization.
B. Nominations may be made
by:
1. Any member or advisor
of any ARH committee.
2. Any member or advisor
of a hall council.
3. Any active member of
NRHH.
4. Any Complex Director,
Residence Hall Director, or Resident
Assistant.
Section 2 Selection
A. The selection committee
will be selected from the following
group: President, Vice President,
Advisor of NRHH and the three Complex
Directors.
B. Alternate selection
committee members will come from the
Housing Staff.
C. The committee will have
at least five members, but no more
than seven.
D. The evaluation process
for the nomination forms will be left
to the discretion of the selection
committee.
E. The selection committee
chairperson shall be the NRHH
President.
F. Selection will take
place in the month of April.
Article V Executive
Structure
Section 1 Selection of
Officers
Officers shall be selected by a
majority vote of all members present
at the last meeting of the Spring
Semester and shall take office at the
first meeting of the Fall Semester.
Section 2 Officers and
Duties
A. The President
shall conduct and preside over all
meetings according to the Sturgis
Standard Code of Parliamentary
Procedure by Alice Sturgis. Meetings
will be called at the President’s
discretion. The President will also
work with the secretary to maintain
files on all the activities.
B. The Vice President
shall preside over all meetings in the
President’s absence, shall handle all
monetary transactions, and shall
submit a budget each semester to be
approved by a simple majority of those
present.
C. The Secretary
shall take minutes of every meeting,
handle any needed correspondence, and
shall work with the President to
maintain files on all the activities.
D.
The Historian shall
maintain a yearly scrapbook, shall
distribute a newsletter once a year to
all members, shall maintain the hall
council data sheets, and shall keep
the NRHH membership listing current.
E.
The Recognition Chair
shall be in charge of the committee
that oversees “Of the Months” (OTMs)
and the committees that oversee
Appreciation Days. This position will
also oversee the Hall and Program of
the Year process.
Section 3 Advisor
The Advisor for NRHH shall be selected
in the spring for the following
academic year. The President-elect
will be in charge of asking the
selected person to be NRHH’s advisor.
Article VI Budget
Section 1 Funding
ARH Policy Board will allocate money
every semester for fund operating
costs and special functions.
Section 2
NRHH will pay $25.00 per year to the
National Office of the Honorary to
retain the chapter’s membership.
Article VII Activities
Section 1 Fall
Orientation
NRHH will hold orientation for hall
government officers within the first
two weeks of the Fall Semester.
Section 2 Recognition
Award
Yearly awards may be given to
recognize people who have contributed
significantly to the residence hall
system.
Section 3 Spring
Banquet
NRHH will hold a Spring Banquet to
honor all those residents who have
participated in residence hall
government.
Section 4 Scholarship
Program
NRHH will conduct fund raising
projects to support scholarships to be
given to outstanding residence hall
leaders.
Section 5 Special
Projects
NRHH will become involved in special
projects as developed and approved by
the membership.
Article VIII Amendments and
Revisions
Amendments and revisions to this
constitution may be adopted by a
simple majority vote of the active
membership.
Article IX Charter
Members and Responsibilities
Section 1 Members
A. Members of the founding
committee will become charter members
with the approval of the selection
committee.
B. People who are selected
for membership through the regular
selection process in the Spring of
1982 will also become charter members.
Section 2
Responsibilities
A. Charter members will
sustain continuity of the group for
the year 1982-83.
B. In addition, the charter
members shall review NRHH’s structure,
constitution and operating procedures
and make revisions as necessary.
