"Building
Better Leaders"
NRHH
is committed to building a high
quality of character in the leaders
within the UND residence halls. It all
starts a couple of weeks into the fall
semester with an annual Leadership
Workshop: "Working Together to Make It
Better". Here, hall government
members are introduced to not only
what their position entails, but also
the impact they could potentially have
in their respective residence halls
through program sessions presented by
NRHH members, ARH Executives, ARH and
Hall Government Advisors, Housing
Central Staff, and representatives
from several other University
departments.
In
an effort to facilitate dialogue
between NRHH members both new and old,
the chapter sponsors an annual alumni
social during the University’s
homecoming festivities every year. In
the past this has been a dessert
social in the atrium of Swanson Hall.
In the fall of 2003, however, the
active membership decided to hold the
first annual NRHH Alumni Tailgate
Social at the Alerus Center just
prior to the homecoming football game.
The event was a big success with over
50 alumni, active, and potential
members attending and is sure to
continue for a number of years.
At
the end of the fall semester, NRHH
sponsors a Cookie Social to
which the hall government members all
across campus are invited. During this
time, the various halls, ARH, and NRHH
are able to celebrate and reflect on
their accomplishments up to the
mid-point of the academic year.
At
the end of the academic year, NRHH
sponsors a grand Recognition
Banquet to celebrate the past
year. Here, the hard work of the hall
government members takes center stage
as awards are passed out and new
members of NRHH are inducted. At the
banquet, NRHH also sponsors annual
leadership scholarships, which are
given to outstanding residence hall
leaders over the course of the past
year, including the Thomas J.
Clifford Outstanding Residence Hall
Leader Award and Scholarship.
Also, in 2004-2005, NRHH will be
awarding its second annual Of the
Year Awards. More information can
be found
here.
Toward
the end of each semester, NRHH sends
home Survival Kit order forms
to the families of all residents. The
Survival Kits arrive just before the
start of the dreaded Finals Week and
help the students get through the
week. Instead of leaving their books
behind, residents can snack on their
own Survival Kit goodies (a variety of
snacks and a voucher for a beverage).
All proceeds from the Survival Kit
orders go into the
NRHH Scholarship Fund. |
