Magazine Subscriptions

Subscriptions to Astronomy have been mailed out, magazines should be arriving soon. Collection of money was made for those subscribing to Sky and Telescope magazine, and that will be mailed so that those subscriptions can get started. It is not to late to add a subscription to one of these fine magazines. Anyone who wishes to add their name to the list can do so at any time. The cost for club discount ($10 off regular rates) magazine subscriptions are:

• $29.00 for Astronomy
• $29.95 for Sky and telescope (included with S & T subscription is a 10% merchandise discount)

Agenda for Future Meetings and Club Newsletter

A call was made for articles, ideas, and volunteers to make presentations at future meetings and/or contribute to a club newsletter. Anyone wishing to share projects, ideas or make a presentation should contact Dean Smith or Chris Milford.

Meeting Times and Place

A discussion was held to move the meeting time/place. It seemed that Witmer Hall was well suited to continue to serve for meeting purposes, but it was decided to move the meeting day to the second Tuesday of the month. Tentatively then, the next several meetings should fall on these dates:

• February 13
• March 13
• April 10
• May 8

Once again, meetings will continue to be held at Witmer Hall, in one of the lecture halls on the first floor.

Presentation

Dean gave a presentation commemorating the six and a half year anniversary of the impacts of the fragments of comet Shoemaker-Levy/9 on the planet Jupiter. He recounted some of the club members observations, displayed drawings that club members made during the impacts, and summarized some of the scientific conjecture and findings that surrounded the impact.

The meeting closed with the usual digression of touring various web sites mixed with a discussion of current and interesting news events in Astronomy, and another favorite hot topic: where will the club go to eat after the meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:48PM and moved on to Whitey's in EGF.
