Dean called the meeting to order at approximately 6:55PM

Attendees:

Dean Smith
Jennifer Rogers
Tricia Johnson
Jay Arnold
Ray Nemoseck
Paul Erickson
Jennifer Rodgers
and Matt

Discussed LINEAR observations. Dean has a picture that he took on the web page. Although the comet is fading, conditions are getting better since the moon is interfering less than it had been. Hopefully observing conditions of late (dry and clear) will hold through the weekend.

Dean mentioned that the club will host an Aerospace camp for kids at the observatory on Wednesday night (Jul 11). Anyone interested in helping out can show up at the PSO about 10:30PM.

The Perseid Meteor shower peaks on the night of August 11-12. The club will probably hold a star party, but unfortunately the moon is near full that weekend.

The Dakota Astronomical Society (DAS) will host the Badlands Star Party August 17-19. If tradition holds, the first night is great for observing, Saturday is hot and spent hiking, and it usually storms on the second night. Dean said there is not much shade in the area, so prepare accordingly. Details as to how to get there will be available at the August meeting. The Saturday prior, the star parties organizers have an evening of presentations. Anyone interested in making a presentation should e-mail Milly.

Dean suggests to bring water if you are planning on making the trip to the badlands.

Two great occultations coming up, Venus is occulted by the Moon on July 17th, approximately 1:03PM local in Grand Forks. The Moon will also occult Jupiter on August 15th in the late afternoon at about 4:30PM.

The South middle school will have a star party on September 27th. Put that on your calendar if you would like to help out.

The Dakota Science Center is having a nature hike on October 1st. The would like the club to hold a star party to coincide with the event. We will discuss this further as the date grows near.

The meeting adjourned about 8:15PM.
