Don't use white lights. Use red lights, cover your flashlight with red cellophane or paper. If for some reason you MUST use a white light, shout out a warning.
Make sure you car doesn't violate the above. Backup lights and even interior lights can ruin someone's night vision. If you're planning to leave before dawn, park so as to be able to leave without using your lights. Remember your safety first!
THE USE OF GREEN LASER POINTERS IS ALLOWED ONLY FOR THE USE OF POINTING OUT OBJECTS IN THE SKY WHICH DO NOT INCLUDE AIRCRAFT. THE ASTRONOMY CLUB MAY ASK YOU TO CEASE USE OF LASER POINTERS IF THINGS GET OUT OF HAND, THESE ARE GREAT TOOLS, BUT WHEN IT DISTURBS OTHER OBSERVERS THEY ARE NO LONGER USEFUL. WE ALSO ASK THAT YOU REFRAIN FROM USING GREEN LASER POINTERS WHICH STAY ON AND ARE USED FOR POINTING TELESCOPES, IF YOU USE THEM FOR POINTING REMEMBER TO TURN IT OFF ONCE YOU GET TO YOUR OBJECT.
CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IS PROHIBITED WITHIN THE TELESCOPE AREA, NO EXCEPTIONS YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE AREA IF CAUGHT.
If you come to a star party without a telescope please park some distance away from the observing site to save room for those with heavy equipment to carry.
Never touch anyone else's equipment without permission. But don't be afraid to ask. Never touch any glass optical surface.
Avoid loud and boisterous behavior. Star-gazing is a quiet, peaceful activity most of the time.
Drive very slowly so as to avoid kicking up dust.
Watch your step. Be especially careful of wires on the ground. Some scopes require power and some folks use their cars battery. If your scope requires power try to make the wires as safe as possible.
If you're a visitor or a newbie, try not to monopolize another persons time. But don't be afraid to chat or ask some questions.
Be doubly careful when astrophotographers are doing their thing.
Things to bring to a star party.
Red covered flashlight
Lawn chair or other comfortable sitting apparatus
Sleeping bag or blankets to keep warm while you sit around
Binoculars, these are a must!
Telescopes if you have them bring them
Warm drinking liquids, hot chocolate or coffee or tea helps keep your insides warm, alcohol does not.
If you are going to listen to music unless you ask everyone there, bring headphones.
