-Common throughout most of the tall grass region
-Grows in moist to moderately dry regions
-Found along rivers, lakeshores, stream banks, ditches, along roadsides, open prairie and disturbed ground
-Will grow in sandy, silty or clayey soils
-Grass will resume growth in the fall with enough moisture, if there has been a period of drought where it has been dormant
-Canada Wild Rye likes to grow next to prairie grasses such as Big bluestem, Little bluestem, Indian grass and Switch grass
-Grass grows throughout Canada and the United States, with exception to a few southeastern and southwestern states
