Rose has been symbolic to my family and I as long as I can remember.
I can recall going with my grandparents (Leonard and Ruth Aalgaard) to
the farmstead in Hannaford, ND, where my grandfather grew up. It
was at this location that my grandparents would point out the beauty of
the prairie rose and explain that it is their favorite wild flower.
Also, they would mention that this is North Dakota's state flower.
To this day, my grandmother and mother (Louise Erickson) have collected
and maintained decorative prairie rose kitchen items. In the future,
I plan on continuing the tradition of explaining this flower to future
generations within my own family!
