The Amorpha canescens, or lead plant, is unique in that it is often used as an indicator of a prairie in good condition. Native to the United States the lead plant can be found growing in high-quality prairies, including the North Dakota prairie land. This perennial plant is primarily a plains dweller but can also be found in the sandy open woods as far east as Michigan and Indiana. |
