Leaves

*Alternate on the branch, egg-shaped to broadly elliptical

*Upper surface dark green and lustrous, lower surface grayish green, usually hairy along veins, margin toothed


Flowers

*In dense, elongated groups at the end of branches
*Flower in April and May
*5 petals, white, separate, rounded, 1/8 to 3/16 inches long

Fruit

*Fleshy fruit, round red or bluish purple to black
*5/16 to 7/16 inches in diameter
*Each berry contains one seed
