Stiff Sunflower Description
stiff sunflowerBotanical Name: Helianthus rigidus

Description: The 2 1/2 inch wide flowers have yellow petals that surround brown to purplish centers. The stem is stiff and rough with stiff, diamond-shaped leaves. Usually grows 2-4 ft. tall and blooms during the late summer months (August-September).

Companion Plants: Little Bluestem, Big Bluestem, Indian Grass, Canada Wild Rye, Prairie Smoke, Prairie Onion, Slender Penstemon, Blue Gama, Western Wheatgrass, and Switchgrass.

Uses: It provides erosion control, quality forage, and wildlife benefits.
