“You learn so much from the people around you,” says Tori Mauch, fifth-year accounting student at the University of North Dakota from Wyndmere, N.D. Mauch’s focus on helping people to achieve their goals while working toward her own aspirations, led her to be awarded with the Dru Sjodin Scholarship.
The Dru Sjodin scholarship was set up to award a UND student who best exemplifies the life of Dru Sjodin with an all expense paid year at UND.
Classmates consistently ask Mauch for advice on building a legacy at UND, and she responds, “Go outside your comfort zone and meet new people. They are the key to your success.” Mauch’s ability to do just that has been demonstrated by her work with the emerging leaders mentorship program. This program matched her up with new freshmen. While in the program she was able to help new students to set goals, get them involved on campus, and push them toward a significant leadership role. This is precisely what many freshmen seek when arriving at a new school.
Mauch attributes her role as a mentor to her dad. “My dad has always played a huge role in shaping me into the person and leader I am today,” said Mauch. “This has really been the driving force motivating me all my life, but literally exploded when I got to college.” This explosion was ignited when Mauch joined the Delta Gamma Sorority, where she was later elected as president.
While president of Delta Gamma, Mauch successfully helped her sorority to win the national outstanding chapter award. Her work focused on improving scholarship, programming and philanthropy within the sorority. Due to these accomplishments, Mauch was voted as not only Greek Life president of the year, but also senior of the year.
“Everything about my time at UND has been absolutely incredible,” said Mauch, who was elected Homecoming Queen last year by UND’s student body. The key to her election according to UND students was the dynamic attitude that she brings to any event.
Mauch recently brought this same attitude to Pricewaterhouse Coopers when she interned there last summer. Mauch described her time at the company as nothing short of amazing. “I felt that UND prepared me well for such an internship and I had an awesome time,” said Mauch. PwC has offered her a position after graduation, which she accepted.
Mauch hopes to one day run a consulting firm that focuses on executive coaching and personal development.
