Site |
| The official Web site for the
University of North Dakota, www.und.edu , serves
current and prospective students and their families,
current and prospective faculty and staff, alumni,
researchers, and the public. It is managed and
maintained jointly by University Relations and
Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS).
The main web server hosts department, office,
faculty, and student organization web sites; some
units host sites on separate web servers. The
responsibility for UND's web presence is distributed
and decentralized. The University Relations
office is responsible for main content, including
the UND home page, general information pages,
and resource pages for specific audiences. Major
operating units and departments, divisions,
and centers throughout the University maintain
web pages that contain vital University information.
These pages are maintained by designated web
publishers within those units. Individual division
heads are ultimately responsible to ensure that
their unit's web content is current, functional,
and accessible. |

| Requesting Web Space |

We provide web space for University faculty,
departments, offices, and official student organizations.
There is no charge. |

| Requesting Links
to Your Web Site |
| The University discourages
the use of "under construction" signs,
and will not knowingly link to any site with an
"under construction" sign. After your
web site is complete, contact us at web@und.edu
or 777-3621; we will link your site on the A-Z
index and wherever else appropriate. Links to
web sites containing dated, inaccessible, or inaccurate
material may be removed. All permanent links on
the home page must be of interest to a majority
of audiences. Temporary links include upcoming
events, news, featured web sites, and other information.

| Requesting Virtual
Domain Names |
Departments and offices may
request a virtual domain name, such as www.physics.und.edu,
from University Relations at 777-2731. Each request
is considered on a case-by-case basis, since the
number of such domain names is limited. For that
reason, we cannot approve such requests for student
organizations or faculty. Please allow at least
10 business days for completion of your request.
Your actual web site address will not change:
it will remain www.und.edu/yourdepartmentname.
Under special circumstances, UND affiliated sites
with virtual domain names of .com and .org, etc.,
may be registered with a commercial domain name
service and hosted on a UND server. If the name
will point to a .nodak.edu computer, the registration
must include the NDUS DNS administrator as a technical
contact (see http://www.ndus.edu?NDUS_Tech_Info/policies/policies_detail.asp?policyID=8).
Each request is considered on an individual basis.
